Sometimes persistence pays off, just ask the normal joe-shmoe who got to caddie for Sergio Garcia at the British Masters this year.
Mark Johnson took tweeting to a whole other level when he decided to tweet at the Masters champion 206 days in a row, asking to caddie for his favorite golfer and using the hashtag #LetMeCaddieForYou. He wasn’t deterred after 200 straight days with no contact and at day 206, Johnson got his wish.
Garcia tweeted at Johnson telling him he found a time to make his wildest dream come true:
Ok @markjohno6969 I think I found the perfect day for you to get a taste of carrying my bag & make your dream come true! Are you ready? 😉

“His persistency really showed me how much he wanted it! We all have dreams and it was nice to make one come true!” -Sergio Garcia
That was back in January and now that it’s September, Johnson finally got to caddie for the Spaniard at the British Masters Pro-Am event at Close House. How did he do? “He was relentless,” Sergio joked. “He was great today, we had a good time.”
Johnson was just happy to be there:
“He got off to a birdie start so I’ll take responsibility for that. But then I dropped his bag. The highlight was just meeting him. He’s just a good lad. I told him now to go and win the competition.”
206 times he asked Sergio to let him caddie for him…
And today super fan @markjohno6969 gets his wish 👍 pic.twitter.com/cVRE33f9uR

The British Masters, hosted by Lee Westwood, is the first of Garcia’s last four events of the 2017 season. He’s not only competing for the purse at this point but he’s attempting to become join Seve Ballesteros and become the second Spaniard in golf history to become European No. 1.
He currently sits at No. 2 behind England’s Tommy Fleetwood, but he is missing this event to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. This could be the opportunity Serg needs to push through and get the crown.
It’s been a pretty good year for Sergio Garcia either way. He won the Masters, got married, and casually made a fan’s dream come true. What a guy.
