The world has been an unforgiving place as of late, which includes the loss of an iconic musician, Tom Petty. Many of Petty’s songs uplifted multiple generations and although he may be gone, his lyrics will resonate with people forever.
With his passing, there have been many current musicians covering Petty’s songs, including our very own John Daly, who took to the stage with Gavin DeGraw during Safeway Open’s Thursday night concert. The two covered “I Won’t Back Down”, which is a great song to play not only to commemorate Tom Petty but to motivate golfers or anyone in the crowd that might be feeling down.
Watch John Daly prove to the crowd that he can sing something other than Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heavens Door” or his own song “Hit It Hard”:

Daly also posted a video of DeGraw performing “Not Over You”, one of his more famous songs, along with the classic One Tree Hill theme song “I Don’t Wanna Be”.
Jimmy Buffett made an appearance as well, making this night one to remember.
These tournament concerts have been becoming more and more popular. They’re a great way to attract golf lovers and casual fans alike while making the Tour a more enjoyable experience. What a great way to kick off the 2017-2018 season.
Daly always finds a way to make it on stage, whether he’s joining an artist or performing solo. Who doesn’t love to see everyone’s favorite golfer sing for the people? And if you say he’s not at least one of your favorite golfer’s, there’s something wrong with you.
As for Daly’s golf, he shot an opening 74, but hopefully singing Petty’s song will inspire him to not back down and fire on all cylinders the rest of the tournament. Whether Daly is playing on the Champions Tour or PGA Tour, he’s always a crowd pleaser.
