Astros Open Game 3 As Favorites But Can They Win The World Series?

Mike Murphy

Game 2 between the Astros and Dodgers may have been one of the more entertaining postseason games in recent memory. Six home runs were hit between innings 9-11 before the Astros tied up the series at one game apiece before returning to Houston on Friday night.

The Dodgers will send mid-season acquisition Yu Darvish (LHP) to the mound to square off with Houston starter Lance McCullers (RHP) in Game 3 on Friday night.

Darvish has been a quality third starter this postseason, going 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and racking up 14 strikeouts in 11.1 innings pitched. McCullers has only started one game this postseason but has pitched a total of 13 innings with a 2.08 ERA. His signature appearance was when he came out of the bullpen to close out Game 7 of the ALCS.

McCullers, who is normally a starter, knew that he would have a significant role coming out of the bullpen in Game 7 and wanted to finish the ball game for his manager A.J. Hinch. He would strike out six Yankees batters in his four-inning save of Game 7 to clinch the AL pennant.

A trend we have seen this postseason is the increased use of bullpens and long-man relievers in the middle of the games. Many managers do not want their starters to labor through long innings in the postseason as there are fresh specialty arms down in the bullpen that can (or should) put out the fire.

The Astros enter Game 3 as 1.5 run favorites to win according to The over/under for this game is 8.5 runs. With those numbers in mind, let’s take a look at some notable prop bets you should invest in for Game 3 (Payouts are based on bets of $100).

Total Runs For The Astros: Over 4.5

Payout: $215.00. The Astros will be returning to a very loud and emotional crowd for Game 3. Game 2 marked the first time the Astros have won a World Series game in franchise history, and you can bet the fans will be rowdy as ever to witness the second victory at home.

Playing in your home park with the fans energy to feed off of plays into this quite a bit. This young Houston lineup is full of youth and raw energy and coupling that with the friendly confines of their home ballpark just sounds like a recipe for multiple runs and home runs.

Total Runs In Game 3: Over 10.5

Payout: 295.00. This is a bet for those who like an adrenalin rush. It’s always tough to predict overall runs for a game especially in a seven-game series where everything is on the line and hitters can go cold in an instant.

But logically speaking, the lineups both look locked in despite the lights-out bullpen pieces each team possesses. And the ball will carry in Houston’s stadium. Houston may not experience the same heat this time of year as LA does, but the ball should still carry well at Minute Maid Park.

Astros To Win By 3-4 Runs (+500)

Payout: 600.00. We’ll stick with the high-scoring theme and give you a risky bet with a plentiful payout if it hits. It’s entirely possible for the Astros to win Game 3 by a three-run margin at the very least.

But if you want to be more conservative and still bet on the run differential, you can place that $100 on the Astros to win the game by 1-2 runs and receive a payout of $295 if it hits.
