Celebrities for the most part are usually pretty well behaved on social media, usually at the request of their management and PR teams. However, sometimes celebrities receive unwanted criticism not only from their fanbase, but also fellow celebrities which can in-turn fuel the Twitter beef fire that we all hate to love. Are they real disagreements or just PR stunts? we’ll truely never know for sure. In most cases, it’s a car crash that you just can’t look away from, and thankfully all within’ 140 characters or less.
1. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’s romance came to a sudden (and saddening) end in 2016 and sparked a quite fierce Twitter feud between the two – and Bieber’s new at-the-time girlfriend. The feud began when Justin Bieber posted a swarm of social media posts about a new girlfriend he obtained shortly after splitting with Gomez. Selena Gomez resorted to calling Bieber out for allegedly cheating throughout their relationship together. Bieber responded to the accusations by telling the public that Gomez only used Bieber for his fame. In the end, Gomez simply “killed with kindness” and responded to accusations by humbly reminding Bieber to consider his fans more when throwing around dishonest posts on social media. Due to her kind-natured clap-back, the hashtag #SelenaEndedJustinParty went trending. While the two these days are on good terms, it’s safe to say Selena definitely came out on top during this one.
2. The Kardashians
The Kardashians are at this point a household name with many of us growing up watching the family on their reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. However, when the first episode of the current KUWTK season premiered, the Kardashians showed in the episode, a fight that broke out between sisters Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian. All seemed like a standard reality TV show family disagreement until the three sisters resorted to tweeting at each other in a rather heated debate while the episode was still in progress. Many fans of the series speculated that Mom-ager (manager) Kris Kardashian had set up the whole ordeal for some juicy publicity to promote the new season of the show but the speculation was never 100% confirmed.
3. Nicki Minaj, Safaree and Tyga’s hairline
Nicki Minaj and Safaree were in a relationship for 10 years, and while the two haven’t been together for almost five years, there’s clearly still some unsettled anger and animosity towards one another. This Twitter feud first came to light when singer, Nicki Minaj and Funkmaster Flex sat for around 90 minutes to discuss their relationship, her new album Queen and some unsettled rumors that hinted that her ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels wrote a few of her hit raps. During the conversation, Minaj straight up denied the fact that “any man” wrote any of her songs, including her ex boyfriend, Safaree, and accused him of using her money to pay for prostitutes while they were together. Not long after the exchange, Samuels responded on Twitter to Minaj’s accusations and fired back with some of his own. Where does Tyga’s hairline play into the argument? Apparently Samuels used Minaj’s money to pay for a new hairline, to which Minaj stated that Tyga used the same doctor as Samuels, stating that Samuels’ hairline had “fallen out” and that Tyga’s hadn’t because “God don’t like ugly”.
4. Katy Perry and Taylor Swift
Singers Katy Perry and Taylor Swift started off as best friends, but that’s a side of the pair we haven’t seen in years now. The fight began back in 2014 over Katy Perry allegedly stealing backup dancers from Swift by calling three of her dancers behind her back and poaching them during a tour. Swift told Billboard that she “basically tried to sabotage an entire aren tour” with the action. Following the comments, Swift’s song “Bad Blood” was released and during a press interview with Rolling Stone, Swift told the magazine that the track was about another female pop star. Once the article came out, Perry took to twitter with an infamous Mean Girls quote, saying “Watch out for the Regina George in sheeps clothing.”
The pair continued to subtly hint at disagreements over the years, all the way into the 2017 when Katy dropped her brand single “Swish Swish” on the same day Swift released her single. The release date wasn’t the only thing that had fans questioning the two, especially if you look closely at Katy’s music video for “Swish Swish” you’ll see a wolf in sheep’s clothing. What a coincidence, right?
5. Gene Simmons Vs. Rap
Kiss frontman Gene Simmons is apparently not a huge fan of rap music, according to an interview with Rolling Stone that caused quite the controversy. During the interview, Simmons was quoted saying that he was “looking forward to the death of rap.” The comments aggravated many people in the rap music community, one of those people being N.W.A rapper Ice Cube, who’s group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. During their acceptance speech, Ice Cube referenced the comments made by Simmons and said “I want to say to Mr. Gene Simmons, hip-hop is here forever. Get used to it.”
Following the speech, Simmons took to Twitter to voice his opinions saying, “Respectfully – let me know when Jimi Hendrix gets into the hip-hop hall of fame. Then you’ll have a point.” To which Ice Cube responded “Who stole the soul? Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Chubby Checkers help(ed) invent Rock n’ Roll. We invent it. Y’all reprint it.”
