It is that time of year again where people take stock of their lives and start to think how they can improve them. Some people believe that you can do this at any time of the year. Of course, this is true but there’s something symbolic about New Year. So here is a list of ideas on how you can improve in 2019
2,4,6,8 everybody hydrate
Drinking water is a great place to start our resolution list. We are supposed to consume about two litres per day. Of course, some of that comes from our food intake. But still trying for the magical 8 glasses of water per day has many benefits. It keeps you feeling full so you eat less, aids concentration. It helps prevent headaches. Water is just good.
Keeping a journal
This is good for your mental health. There are positive and negative ways of dealing with your emotions. Writing them down definitely comes under the category of positive. Of course, you can do this electronically and there are some great apps. But why not be old school and use a notebook?
Join a gym
This is purely based on an assumption, but I would hazard a guess that gym subscriptions probably go through the roof during the month of January. If you hit the gym in February they are dead! They pick up again a month or two before summer! I’m being flippant. But taking care of your body is never a bad thing and where better than with a bunch of like-minded people.
Start using a calendar app
If you are the sort of person who never turns up on time to anything this could be perfect for you. Why not download a calendar app? Put all the important dates in there, set reminders. There is no reason that you have to be the “hot mess” you are right now. You can be the, actually, I don’t know what to call someone who is hot and organised.
Make a bucket list
You don’t just have to set out a list of short-term fixes. Why not start thinking about long-term goals as well? A bucket list is perfect as it can show you the things you want to do with your life and then it’s all about trying to achieve them!
With family. Why not make a commitment to spend more time with the people who mean the most to you? You can even put into place family nights where you pop your phones away and talk to one another. I know, crazy talk!
And not just articles on the internet (although they are good too!) get some actual books. Join a book club even.
Give up a bad habit
For me, this would be fizzy pop. I’m a bit of an addict. For you, it might be drinking, smoking, eating fatty foods. Giving up any of these can be good for your health and general well-being.
Get out of the house
For all you hermits and introverts out there. Spending time outside is great. Even if it is just going for a walk along the beach. Fresh air, free exercise, these are all good things. Don’t underestimate the social aspect either.
Try to be more kind
Or patient even. If you have ever worked in retail you know how soul destroying it can be. People often check their common courtesy at the door. Baristas, nurses, bank clerks. They may have a job but when they aren’t at work they are human beings, just like you and I. Just be kind to people. It can’t do any harm, can it?
