If you have yet to see the movie, The Bucket List I can well recommend it. In the film, two elderly friends embark on an adventure to complete the things on their bucket list. What is a bucket list? It is a collection of activities that you want to have “done” before you “kick the bucket” I.E die. If you are thinking of making your own bucket list we have some ideas for you.
See the northern lights
Despite it being on everyone’s bucket list there is an element of luck involved with this. Admittedly you can time your journey to give you the greatest chance of seeing this famous phenomenon but effectively you are in the hands of mother nature.
Visit the Mardi Gras
One of the world’s biggest parties. Surely it is something we should all aspire to visit once. From all the reports it is an experience like no other.
The Pyramids of Giza
Despite the historical significance of the pyramids and the exotic feel of a holiday in Egpyt, it is relatively inexpensive. Hotels in the coastal region of Sharm are very reasonable. Admittedly it is quite a journey from Sharm to Cairo but the excursion isn’t expensive and the Sphinx and the pyramids are worth the journey time.
Swim with dolphins
There are some theme parks where you can do this and it is a wonderful experience. But shop around as some places don’t keep their Dolphins in particularly nice conditions.
Eat at a Michelin star rated restaurant
The Michelin guide is the ultimate guide for restaurants. In order to get a star, an eatery must serve only the finest local products prepared to an outstanding standard. Don’t you deserve to dine in such luxury at least once?
Go hand gliding
Because why wouldn’t you effectively turn yourself into a giant human kite? People who have been hand gliding liken it to being a bird. It is a sense of freedom that you can’t get in other ways.
Climb a mountain
There are plenty of excursions where you can do just that. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to scale cliff faces. Some mountains require little in the way of safety gear.
Take a ride in a hot air balloon
Follow in the footsteps of Phileas Fog and take a hot air balloon ride. You probably won’t make it all around the world, but the views will be amazing.
Learn a new language
While you are completing your bucket list you may well do some serious travelling. Why not learn a language so you can impress the locals on your travels?
Write a book
As a writer, you have no idea how many times I hear people say “I have a book in me”. To quote Shia LaBeouf “Just do it!” get those words on to a page.
Learn how to play an instrument
And not just Frère Jacques – learning one chord does not make you a concert pianist. Pick up an old guitar and get your backside on youTube.
Visit a Volcano
This is actually more accessible then you think, some of the Spanish Isles contain volcanoes. If you want to go the whole hog then visit Pompeii!
Fly first class
Because you do deserve to experience the finer things in life. Apparently, a first class flight provides the ultimate luxury. Why not find out?
Take a Limo ride
Even if you just hire one to ride around in for an hour, everybody has to travel in a limo at least once. It is a right of passage.
Fly in a helicopter
If you’ve done a hot air balloon, a glider and a plane then a helicopter is really the only cool option left! Why not ride one over the Grand Canyon and get a two for one on life-defining experiences?
