It’s an exciting time to be a fan of Fortnite. The third-person shooter/builder is still one of the biggest on the planet and shows no sign of slowing down. As if it wasn’t exciting enough having a custom Fortnite x-box. (And let’s be honest that is pretty exciting) there is now going to be a Fortnite…party.
There’s little doubt that the Fortnite has the popularity to make a lot of money from such an event. The game boasts more than 250 million players. And it’s rumoured that it is a billion dollar franchise. Epic games have truly created a global juggernaut and not only does this give the company a great platform to host events like this. It’s also great for fans that get to enjoy the culture surrounding their favourite game in a new and exciting way
It is somewhat of a post E3 party. Taking place not long after the event has finished on the 15th of June. It is a two day spectacular with a host of activities making it well worth a visit if you are a big fan of the franchise, or if you just want a fun weekend out! It also comes hot on the heels of Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show which finishes on the 13th at the LA convention centre. There’s a lot going on for gamers at the moment.
The Fortnite block party
The event has been officially dubbed the Summer Block Party and will be hosted by the games creator, Epic games. It will take place at the Forum arena in Inglewood, California.
Celebs flock for Fortnite
The event is likely to attract celebrities from the gaming world and from the rest of pop culture alike. You only have to look across global social media to see how popular the game is. However, there are going to be some celebrities from the Fortnite world in attendance too. Popular streamers Ninja and Kitty Plays have both confirmed they will be in attendance.
The competitive element
You can’t have a Fortnite event without people playing the game, right? No, we didn’t think so either. So with that in mind over the course of the weekend, there will be two tournaments. The first will be played by content influencers and will take advantage of creative mode. The second will be the second annual celebrity pro-am. If you remember the first tournament was held last year and was won by Ninja and Marshmello and made more than three million dollars for charity.
The other stuff
It won’t just be a tournament though. There is a lot going on over the course of the weekend. It will play host to the fans festival. This will be a fan’s dream and allow fans to meet characters from the game. Whether these are cosplayers or mascots has yet to be confirmed. They will be able to ride zip lines too. But perhaps the most exciting part is that people will be able to eat in themed restaurants based on locales from the game such as Durr burger and Pizza Pete’s.
Of course, nothing in life is free. However, this is not an event that is going to break the bank. The tickets are very reasonably priced coming in at just thirty-five dollars and can be purchased here. Remarkable value, really. Of course, not everyone is going to be able to get to LA to join in with the fun. If you are on the opposite coast of the US perhaps you’re better waiting for the Fortnite World Cup finals in New York City next month. That tournament has a massive pot with the winner taking home three million big ones.
