You could justifiably claim that it is an unfair stereotype to claim that all gamers are geeks. But let’s be honest here a vast majority of us are, aren’t we? So let’s celebrate that fact with some of the most famous geeks of all time. Fictional and factual, we don’t discriminate at the Versed.
Stephen Hawking
It feels churlish to accuse one of the greatest scientific minds of our generation a geek. But if he were here and you levelled the accusation at him, I think he would gleefully agree. His obsession with the cosmos led to us expanding what we think about physics and in particular black holes. Hawking was also famed for his sense of humour which never diminished despite his horrendous illness which he battled for far longer than he had any right to.
Sheldon Cooper
Penny, Penny, Penny. Sheldon has become the modern archetypal geek. Obviously, on the autistic spectrum, the character takes virtually everything literally making him an accidental comic genius. His ability to be pedantic and his inability to accept he is wrong is matched only by his passion for comic books and science fiction. The characters bedroom acts as a shrine to all manner of nerdy toys and his wardrobe of superhero Tee’s further exemplifies his passion for all things geeky.
Bill gates
The guy who pretty much made PC’s what they are. How can you not include the genius behind Microsoft on this list? Famously it is said that if there were such a thing as a thousand dollar bill if Gates were to drop one it wouldn’t be worth his time to actually pick it up. So be kind to geeks, chances are you will end up calling them boss!
Xander Harris
If you’re an eighties or nineties kid there is a good chance that you had at least a passing interest in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Xander was the nerdy, quippy heart of the show. Sweet, funny but so far from being cool that it hurt. Xander was my 13-year-old spirit animal.
George Lucas
Like Gates, Lucas is a self-made billionaire. Only he made his fortune by inventing frigging Star Wars. Let’s be real for a second, The Star Wars saga is at the forefront of most geeks consciousness. He may have given the green light to “I don’t like sand…” and Jar Jar Binks, but if not for Lucas we wouldn’t have Han Solo! In Lucas we trust!
Abby Sciuto
If you haven’t watched NCIS it is well worth a viewing. It is one of those rare times that a spin-off show is better than the original. Abby is definitely part of the reason for that. The gothy forensic expert is the perfect mix of quirky and cute.
Simon Pegg
For starters, the guy has featured in both Star Trek and Star Wars movies. How many people can claim that? He is a vocal admirer of sci-fi and his movies act as a homage to cult horror films, how can you question his geekiness?
Stan Lee
The guy invented Thor, The Hulk, Spiderman and Iron Man. Do we really need to say anymore? He was the godfather of the superhero genre. Marvel fans would watch entire movies and the first thing they would talk about was Stan Lee’s hilarious cameo appearances. It was a sad day when this geeky legend left us.
Don Tillman
Yes, he is a character from a book. You know those things we sometimes read. (What am I talking about. If you are a geek you will know your way around a book!) His character is very Sheldon-esque. Valuing rationality above emotion Don is a loveable if infuriating geek.
